Local players should earn at least GHc3,000 – Tanko Mohammed

Former Aduana Stars and Medeama forward Tanko Mohammed believes three thousand minimum salary for local players can help curb player exodus.

The mass exodus of players in the domestic top-flight league has affected the standard of the Ghana Premier League and also the performance of Ghanaian teams in Africa.

Most players who turn out to perform well join other clubs on the continent or move to Europe for greener pastures.

In an interview with Sylvester Ntim of Aben FM in Koforidua, the former Black Stars B forward said a minimum salary of three thousand cedis will help in retaining the quality players in the local scene.

“GFA must do something about salaries of local players. I don’t think local players will move out of the country if they are taking something around GHC2000 so I will plead with the FA do something about salary structure of players”

“Because of poor salaries, most of the players are willing to leave and this undermines the domestic football. In Nigeria, players take not less than $1000 and this prevent the top stars from leaving but in our case, there are players who are taking GHC300 and others which is bad”

“So, for me, GHC3000 should be the minimum wage for local players” he said.
