Mariano Barreto ASHAMED of officiating in Ghana Premier League

Asante Kotoko Head Coach Mariano Barreto says he’s ashamed at the level of officiating he’s witnessed so far in the Ghana Premier League, particularly with games involving his side.

The Portuguese gaffer joined the Porcupine Warriors right in time for the second round of the campaign and has so far overseen 4 matches.

Barreto latest tirade against officiating officials stems from what he calls, a failure on the part of referees to protect his players during matches.

This most recent lashing out is aimed directly at referee Emmanuel Tampuri who handled Asante Kotoko’s away clash against Legon Cities on Saturday.

Despite seeing his side win the game, Barreto was unhappy with officiating and suggests referees in the local league can do better.

“I think they (referees) have to try and improve also because they have to help the game. This is the second time one of my players will be going out due to injury and if they (referees) don’t protect players, then why are they coming,” he revealed during the post match press conference.

“I like football and I am feeling ashamed when I look at these kind of things,” Barreto concluded.
