Match Preview: Hearts of Oak vs Legon Cities- Phobians begin title defense against city-rivals

League champions Accra Hearts of Oak will begin their title defence with a tricky home tie against Legon Cities on Sunday.

The battle between Coach Samuel Boadu and Maxwell Konadu is scheduled for 3pm kick off at Accra Sports Stadium.

The Phobians come into this fixture at the back of a humiliating 6-1 defeat to Wydad Cassabalanca in the CAF Champions League.

Hearts will now look to excel in the Confederation Cup but for now all their focus will be on laying down a marker in their opening game of the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League season.

Meanwhile, Legon Cities know they have to improve this season if they are to make a meaningful impact on the destiny of the GPL title.

The Royals underwhelmed last season and just about survived the drop despite their plethora of big-name signings.

But there is a new sheriff in town with Coach Maxwell Konadu at the helm and a squad with plenty of new faces.

The Black Stars assistant coach has stated that his team’s objective is to finish top half of the league table at the end of the season.

The former Asante Kotoko trainer is a veteran of the local game and Cities will be hoping to benefit from his experience.

Hearts have however been a tough nut to crack for the Legon-based outfit with the Phobians picking four-points from a possible six in the meetings between the two sides in the league last season.
