Match Report: AshantiGold 1-0 Eleven Wonders, Abagna strike not enough as Miners draw with Wonders
AshantiGold SC failed to make it four wins in four straight home games as they drew 1-1 against Eleven Wonders.
The Miners hosted the Techiman side at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday in a Match Week 23 fixture.
Ashgold came into the game on the back of a disappointing away loss at Elmina Sharks; a situation that was worsened when Coach Romain Folz quit his job barely 24 hours after the match.
The above mentioned development meant the home side went into the game with their assistant Thomas Duah (becoming their 4th Coach used this season).
However, they still harbored hopes of a positive result drawing belief from their last three home games which had ended in wins. The Miners put visiting sides Aduana Stars, Hearts of Oak and Bechem United to the sword and were confident of taking struggling Eleven Wonders through same ordeal.
The first half got off to a frenetic start and after David Abagna Sandan gave the home side a lead after 40 minutes, belief in sealing a win soared above ceiling level.
Back from recess, the home side looked to be managing the game well until they suffered a major heartbreak in the closing stages of the game.
Eleven Wonders forward Abass Ganiu got his side level in added on time to silence the home fans at the Len Clay Stadium.
The away side held on to ensure they picked a point from the game after the blast of the referee’s final whistle.
The result will be a big blow for Ashgold as they look to find some consistency so far this season. It will be more of two points lost for the Miners than a point gained.
They now lie 10th on the table on 31 points, 10 adrift of the top spot.
On the part of Eleven Wonders, the result will be very much appreciated as they pick a valuable point on the road to boost their fight towards avoiding any relegation battle subsequently.
The Techiman side have 26 points and see the gap between them and the relegation spot increase to 3.
