Match Report: Elmina Sharks 0-0 WAFA, Arthur’s late strike snatches victory for Fearsome Sharks
A last gasp goal by Samuel Arthur helped Elmina Sharks secure victory over the Academy Boys of WAFA in a closely contested Ghana Premier League fixture on Saturday.
WAFA played as guests to Sharks in this Match Week 20 fixture and were hoping to pull the plugs on their recent poor away form.
Coach Prosper Narteh Ogoom’s side have struggled for form and consistency on the road this season with a very poor record. Their away form before the game read 1 win, 2 draws and 7 Defeats in ten games. On top of that they had scored just two goals on the road while conceding 13. WAFA had also failed to record a single away goal in their last 5 away Premier League matches.
This abject form set up the encounter in a manner that made the home teams favorites considering they had won their last two home games (against Asante Kotoko and Ebusua Dwarfs).
The game was a bit edgy but pulsating in the first half, with neither side failing to find the net during this period.
The second half was similar but a bit better. The game looked set to end in a draw until Samuel Arthur happened. The 32 year old scored in added on time after the normal time had elapsed to give Sharks Coach Noi Odartey Lamptey yet another home win.
The result means, Elmina Sharks have won their last three home games with a 1-0 scoreline.
They now move past WAFA to 10th on the table on 26 points. WAFA who lie 11th have the same number of points but have an inferior head to head record against Sharks.
