Match Report: Hearts of Oak 2-0 Medeama SC- Phobians take big step towards GPL title
Hearts of Oak refused to flinch in the Premier League title race following a 2-0 win over Medeama SC on Sunday evening.
Salifu Ibrahim and Benjamin Afutu scored in either half as the Phobians comfortably dispatched the Mauve and Yellows at the Accra Sports Stadium.
After a cagey opening half-hour, Salifu pounced on a rebound to slot in from close range to give Hearts a 1-0 lead at the break.
Samuel Boadu’s men doubled their lead on the hour mark after Benjamin Afutu connected with Emmanuel Nettey’s well delivered set-piece to head home his side’s second.
Despite Medeama’s late charge, the Phobians remained resolute in defense and held on to claim the crucial three points.
Hearts of Oak are now unbeaten in their last seven games and kept an impressive six clean sheets during their hot streak.
The Rainbow boys now lead table with 53 points but 2nd placed Asante Kotoko who have 50 points can close the gap when they travel to relegation-threatened Inter Allies on Monday.
