Match Report – World Cup 2022 Qualifiers: Ghana beat Ethiopia 1-0
The senior national team of Ghana on Friday evening beat Ethiopia 1-0 at the Cape Coast Stadium in the FIFA Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars dominated the game with several goal scoring opportunities in the first half as they managed to open the score half way through the first half.
In the 28th minute Crystal Palace man Schlupp limped off, Daniel Kofi Kyereh replaced him.
Midfielder Wakaso Mubarak fired the opener for the home side from a long range shot after a nice passing game in midfield.
The Ethiopian goalkeeper could not hold on to Wakaso Mubarak’s thunderbolt shot and spilled the ball into the net. This goal sent the 2,500 fans in the stands at the Cape Coast Stadium into wild jubilations.
After half time, the Black Stars of Ghana commenced the game on a good note with hopes of extending their lead.
In the 46th minute the Ethiopians made some changes to their squad, goalkeeper Fasil Gebremichael replaced Teklemariam Shanko. Mesud Mohammed was replaced by Tafesse Solomon.
The Black Stars gained possession to pile up pressure on the Ethiopians but the visitors remained solid at the back. Ghana made some changes in the 69th minute Kamaldeen made way for Yaw Yeboah and Wakaso was replaced by Emmanuel Lomotey.
In The 82nd minute Ethiopia had a spell of possession in the Ghana half but the defenders were up to the task clearing the ball out of play. Both sides were really poor in front of goal as the game crawled to a finish.
In the 89th minute FC Orenburg man Joel Fameyeh replaced Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew. The referee added three minutes to the game.
The game ended 1-0 not a vintage performance by Black Stars.
