Maxwell Abbey Quaye hands Olympics victory in Accra derby with first hat-trick of the season
Olympics forward Maxwell Abbey Quaye will be the headline of the first Accra derby of the season following an inspired performance in his side’s 3-1 win over Accra Lions this evening.
Annor Walker’s men had secured a point in their first game of the season against RTU and were hopeful of a win against new boys Accra Lions on Sunday.
No setback was to be experienced as Maxwell Abbey Quaye seized the opportunity to become the club’s hero on the night, granting them a win in the Accra derby.
The forward scored a hat-trick in both halves of the game to give Olympics all three points.
His first of the night came in the 21st minute of the game before netting a double and completing the hat-trick between the 64th and 68th minute.
The three goals scored means he currently leads the golden boot race ahead of the likes of Fatwu Issahaku and Emmanuel Avornyo who netted a brace in the opening game of the season.
Accra Lions’ consolation goal was scored by Richmond Tetteh Ankrah in the 57th minute.
