Metz coach Frederic Antonetti reveals John Boye left team orphan
Metz head coach Frédéric Antonetti has bemoaned the departure of Ghanaian defender John Boye from the club.
The 34-year-old became a free agent after leaving French Ligue 1 side FC Metz on 30 June 2021 after three successful seasons.
During his last spell in the 2020/2021 campaign, Boye was captain Metz and went ahead to make 35 appearances.
The former Stade Rennes player had requested a two-year contract extension from the club which had been denied thus he was willing to leave to any club that was willing to offer him the two-year.
He finally secured a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Fahya on transfer deadline day.
However, according to Metz coach Antonetti who sees the Ghanaian defender as a warrior, Boye has left the club orphan.
“I regret it because he was our warrior, admits Frédéric Antonetti. We are an orphan of the good defender that he is” he said.
Metz have conceded 10 goals in their first five games in the absence of John Boye.
