Nigeria to face Ecuador in international friendly
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will face Ecuador in an international friendly ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria failed to qualified for the global showpiece after drawing 1-1 with Ghana in the return leg of the final play-offs at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja last month, hence, Black Stars progress on the away goals rule.
Ghana’s qualification denied Nigeria a fourth successive outing at the World Cup finals.
Augustine Eguavoen stepped down as Nigeria’s coach as a result of failing to qualify for the World Cup.
The international friendly against Ecuador was announced by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in a statement on Friday.
The game has been scheduled for June 2, 2022, at the 25,000-capacity Red Bull Arena in New Jersey, USA.
The match comes only five days after three –time African champions Nigeria would have squared up to the El Tri of Mexico, one of the strongest teams in the CONCACAF region, in another prestigious international friendly match at the AT & T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Nigeria have participated at the FIFA World Cup finals on six occasions, reaching the Round of 16 in 1994, 1998 and 2014.
