Ghana and Nigeria played out a pulsating 0-0 draw at the Baba Yara Stadium in the 1st leg of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 play-off on Friday evening.
The ‘Jollof derby’ started at a very high tempo with a fired up Baba Yara crowd cheering the home team.
FootballmadeInGhana.com rated the performance of the Black Stars players.
Jojo Wollacott (GK) (7/10)-
The Goalkeeper made a remarkable exercise yesterday. Had good reflexes. Made few saves especially the one-on-one chance with Joe Aribo, and it’s reason the game ended 0-0 stalemate.
Daniel Amartey -(7/10)-
The Center-back headed many set piece balls. Made good blocks and clearances. Amartey kept Osimhen in his pocket in the entire duration of the game.
Alexander Djiku (7/10) –
Partnered Amartey to give a strong defense yesternight. Made few clearances and blocks.
Denis Odoi (7/10)- Making his debut, the Club Brugge defender made a good runs. Tackled Chukwueze well, and made great crosses. Had good recoveries too.
Gideon Mensah (7/10) – He was instrumental yesternight. Surges forward on a good rate, and tracked well. Made great crosses too.
Thomas Partey (6/10)- The Central midfielder was good, sending long and incisive passes especially in the first half however, was relatively off in the second half.
Baba Iddrisu (6/10) – The Defensive midfielder as usual was good in his interceptions and block passes. However, had awful offensive passes. Defensive, he’s good. Offensive, he was awful.
Mohammed Kudus ( 7/10) – The attacking midfielder was great yesternight. Had good take-ons, incisive passes, technical abilities. He kept splitting the super Eagles midfield with his great effects.
Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (6/10)- The Winger was a key figure in the first half, dazzling and turning his foes especially in the first half. Fired shots of which some were blocked and some went to the goalpost for the goalkeeper to save.
Jordan Ayew (5/10)- Had a good run on the left side of the attack. Surged forward with the ball, drew back to help Gideon Mensah in the defense, as well as cutting-in to create spaces yesternight.
Felix Afena-Gyan (6/10) – Gave Ekong and Balogun tough work to do yesternight. Even when he switched play to either right or left side of the attack, Aina and Sanusi weren’t spared. Has footwork and good techniques.
Substitutes
Daniel Kofi Kyere (4/10)
Comes on to replace Jordan, and together with Partey and Baba, they dominated the midfield as the game reached the die embers.
Osman Bukari (5/10) Came onto increase the pressure mounted on the Super Eagles. The Winger was very good on the flanks. Bukari took-on Sanusi on a last minute encounter and ran to lay a low-cross unfortunately, no one was there to tap the ball to the goalpost.
Kwasi Okyere-Wriedt (4/10)
Came to make few runs in the game. He relatively added more pressure to the super Eagles defense.
