Raphael Dwamena is progressing favorably from his heart condition and, in principle, will leave the hospital in the next few hours. The footballer gave the scare last Wednesday, after fainting on the bench during the match between BW Linz – the club in which he is a member – and TSV Hartberg, in the round of 16 of the Austrian Cup.

The 26-year-old former Real Zaragoza player collapsed after clutching his chest, when he witnessed the crash on the substitutes’ bench, and was immediately treated by medical services. He later he was transferred to the hospital.

“Raphael is fine,” explained Tino Wawra, sporting director of BW Linz, the current Dwamena team, on Thursday. “I was able to convince myself of his improvement in the hospital, as I even saw him smile. Dwamena already suffered heart problems during his time at Real Zaragoza, a club to which he came on loan from Levante. In the Aragonese capital he had to stop playing because of the risk of suffering a heart attack. With the Zaragoza team he participated in a total of 12 games, with a balance of two goals: he contributed to the away win against Alcorcon, and also to the victory against Extremadura at the stadium of La Romareda. Later, he had to quit soccer practice due to his heart problems, and the doctors advised him to permanently hang up his boots.
