Sports minister urges Black Stars players to emulate predecessors ahead of qualifiers
Ghana’s Youth and Sports Minister, Hon. Mustapha Ussif has urged the current crop of Black Stars players to try and emulate the achievements of their predecessors as they prepare for the opening round of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.
The Stars are scheduled to play both Ethiopia and South Africa this month as the qualifiers for the continent begins.
The first game will take place this Friday at the Cape Coast Sports Staduim against Ethiopia before C.K. Akonnor’s men travel to Johannesburg to play South Africa a couple of days later.
Despite some players being unable to make it to for the games, a number of high profile players were present at the team’s training camp on Tuesday as they began their preparations in Cape Coast.
Among them were captain Andre Ayew, Crystal Palace forward Jordan Ayew, Ghana Premier League winner Afriyie Barnieh and many others.
But before departing for Cape Coast, the Youth and Sports minister spoke to the players, encouraging them to emulate the achievements of their predecessors and make the country proud.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif referenced the recognition that the country received as a result of its performances in the 2006 World Cup as the standard the Stars can look up to ahead of their qualifiers and the AFCON tournament next year.
The minister who also speaking on behalf of the President assured the players that the government will do everything possible to help them prepare adequately for the games ahead.
