Three crucial battles that might determine South Africa’s destiny versus Ghana
Ghana needs a win over Hugo Broos’ team to keep their prospects of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup alive. It’s a game of life and death for both teams, since a win advances either to the third round.
If Ghana follows through on their objectives, Bafana will face a more difficult task than they did against Ethiopia and Zimbabwe because the Black Stars players are just better.
Group leaders South Africa will play Ghana on Sunday at the Cape Coast Stadium.
The three battles listed below have the potential to determine the game:
Daniel Amartey vs Keagan Dolly
Dolly caused massive problems for Zimbabwe earlier in the week, causing the Warriors to lose their tactical organization. Dolly ultimately persisted and delivered the cross and assist to Teboho Mokoena’s game-winning goal.
Dolly’s work rate was remarkable, but he has to work on his shooting. Bafana may have scored more than one goal against Zimbabwe if he and Bongokuhle Hlongwane had been more clinical in front of goal.
Amartey will be charged with stopping Dolly. Dolly may face a more difficult assignment than he did against Zimbabwe since the Leicester City defender is used to stopping world-class players in the Premier League.
Andre Ayew vs Rushine De Reuck
Ayew has been a member of Ghana’s national squad since 2007, and his expertise and leadership will be crucial in determining if Ghana can defeat South Africa. It will be his responsibility to keep his men motivated, to start attacks, and maybe to find assists for his offensive teammates.
Sundowns midfielder De Reuck might be used to try to halt Ayew while recycling possession and ensuring that he can send the ball into Ghana’s defensive half for as long as possible.
Caleb Ekuban vs Ronwen Williams
Ekuban, a Genoa striker, is known for his technical abilities, speed, and strong physique. There is a chance that Ghana may use him as an impact substitute if they do not start him when he will be able to outmuscle the Bafana Bafana defense while he is fresh.
Williams had a relatively quiet shift in goal for Bafana against Zimbabwe, but that may not be the case against Ghana, considering the superiority of Ghana’s attackers. Williams will need to be precise with his positioning and may be called upon to make some critical saves in this contest.
