Top Black Stars players jubilate over Akonnor’s dismissal

Some members of the Black Stars squad have secretly expressed their joy following the dismissal of head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor, FootballMadeInGhana can exclusively reveal.

The 47 year old trainer and his two assistants were relieved of their duties on Monday following a run of uninspiring performances and results.

The latest being a 1-0 away defeat to South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifier last week.

Akonnor, who was appointed in January 2020, oversaw 10 matches during his tenure, with a record of 4 wins, 4 losses and two draws.

His exit came as little surprise to some fans and pundits but even more damning is the echoes that are coming out of the private quarters of the players he coached.

According to a grapevine source, the gaffer had lost the Black Stars dressing room with his abrasive style of management.

Akonnor’s unorthodox methods were not appreciated by a section of the playing body who felt he was out of his depth as coach of the senior the national team.

The cracks eventually translated to performances on the pitch which inevitably led to his sacking.

While it can be argued that it was never a fair fight for Akonnor given the circumstances of his appointment and the subsequent effects of the novel coronavirus.

His dismissal is only logical when the conditions that underpinned the poor results of his tenure were of his own doing.
