U-20 AFCON: ‘Captain Marvel’ Afriyie Barnieh steals the show as Ghana strolls to fourth title

Ghana captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh stole the show in a thrilling finale to the 2021 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Mauritania.

Ghana’s Black Satellites met the Hippos of Uganda in the final game of the tournament with the ultimate trophy at stake.

Ghana went searching for their fourth triumph at this stage while tournament newbies were hoping to complete what has been a fairytale campaign for them so far.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh who captains the National U-20 side in the end led by example as he stepped up when it mattered most.

The Accra Hearts of Oak attacker bagged in the final game to ensure Ghana strolled comfortably towards clinching the trophy.

Barnieh opened the scoring in the first half after 22 minutes after he was set up by Issahaku Fatawu.

His goal ensured Ghana went into the break with the lead.

Back from recess, Afriyie Barnieh was in no mood to slow down yet as he delivered another goal to increase the tally for the Black Satellites.

Ghana eventually held on for the win with Daniel Afriyie Barnieh deservedly named final MVP.

The trophy is Ghana’s 4th and the first since 2009. Kudos to the gallant Black Satellites led by the ‘Captain Marvel’ Daniel Afriyie Barnieh.
