We need to start the World Cup qualifiers well – CK Akonnor
Ghana coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor is hoping that the Black Stars will kick start their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on a good note.
The Black Stars play host to the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia at the Cape Coast stadium tonight.
Ghana are paired in Group G of the qualifiers with South Africa, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia and will be hoping to secure qualification having missed out in 2018.
Speaking ahead of the game, Akonnor disclosed he wants his side to start the qualifying campaign on a good note.
“We need to start the qualifiers well, so this is a game we must win,” he told fifa.com.
“Fortunately for us, we’re starting at home, but the fans will be expecting a big win from us. We’re not going to leave anything to chance.
“We’re quite confident about our capabilities as a team, but it’s equally important to keep an eye on our opponents.
“We know how quick they are in the transition, how they like to play attractive possession football, and the cohesion they have as a result of most of the team playing in their domestic league.
“We’ll be ready for them. We need to take advantage and consolidate our gains. We’ll be aiming for the three points and a decent scoreline.”
The much-anticipated game has been scheduled for 7pm.
