We could have scored more goals against Hearts of Oak – Wydad Casablanca coach Walid Rekraki

Head coach of Wydad Athletic Club Walid Rekraki has expressed delight about the character of the team in their 6-1 mauling against Ghanaian club Hearts of Oak in the CAF Champions League preliminary round second leg tie.

The Moroccan side inflicted a 6-1 win over the Phobians at the Mohammed V Stadium to progress to the money zone of the Champions League.

The Phobians went into the return fixture with a 1-0 advantage but were unable to maintain it as they suffered their heaviest defeat in Africa on Sunday.

Speaking after the game, Walid Rekraki who missed the first leg in Ghana due to Covid-19 hailed the team’s character and said they could have won with high number of goals against the Phobians.

“We played the well-known Wydad character, and our reaction should have been strong in the match. Today, I liked the character of my team, as well as the way the players fought.”

He continued that, “We could have won with a bigger score, but the important thing is to qualify. We did not let doubt seep into our team during the match, as we finished the first half with a four-way lead.”
