Yaw Yeboah talks about his fantastic goal and comparison to Okocha
Wisła Krakow footballer Yaw Yeboah conquered social media with his goal for Gornik Leczna. In an interview with Interia, he talks about comparisons to Jay-Jay Okocha, about preparations for the hit match with Legia Warsaw and about whether he can still leave the Vistula in this transfer window.
This goal conquered social media and sports websites around the world. And it was a goal from the league game between Wisła Kraków and Gornik Leczna. Nevertheless, the Spanish “Marca” or the official FIFA website wrote about it. All because Wisla’s winger Yaw Yeboah presented in this goal action finesse and technical skills, which were not so often seen on the Ekstraklasa fields. Now, in an interview with Interia, he admits that this media hype is not going away, especially in his native Ghana.
Did Yeboah himself also watch reruns of his feat so passionately? – Many times, because many people label me now on Instagram videos and other social media – he does not hide. – I also got a lot of signals from my family and friends in Ghana that they liked the goal very much. Also dad. They compared it to Okocha’s Jay-Jay.
Father proud of his son
Surprisingly, the wingman’s father realized quite late that his son had become a social media hero. – After the match in Leczna, he asked me: how was the match going? I said: Dad, I scored a really nice goal! “Yes?” he replied. I started telling him that all the media in Ghana are already writing about it. And he said: I haven’t seen it yet, I’ve been busy with work – laughs Yeboah.
In the past, Yaw’s dad was against his son making a career in football. As a young boy, Yeboah even had to … hide his football hobby from his father. “Dad is proud of me now,” he admits.
The Wisla winger, however, claims that the goal against Leczna was no exception on the list of his hits so far. – It is indeed one of the most beautiful goals I have scored in my career. But I scored similarly beautiful goals for the Ghana national team as well as for Celta Vigo B – he recalls. – Many people are impressed in this situation, because usually in the Polish Premier League the game is more based on physical duels. It is not easy for a player to take the ball and dribble like that, to score a goal after an individual action.
How is it possible that Wisla recorded such a spectacular victory over the newcomer in the fifth round of the league competition, while in the two previous matches it lost, after numerous mistakes and unconvincing performances? – I believe in teamwork. As a team, we worked hard and the result came. We learn from our mistakes. We try to eliminate them. We worked hard all week and got an award, explains Yeboah. – We have a lot of new players, a new coach. We work step by step and I think we can achieve a lot together.
And he recalls: – After the defeats with Rakow and Stal, nobody felt well. Neither we nor our fans. We really wanted to win in Leczna to clear the atmosphere before the hit match with Legia next Sunday. So that the fans come to the stadium with the feeling that a week earlier they were satisfied with their team and on Sunday it can be similar again.
Gula’s philosophy better than Hyballi’s
The midfielder from Ghana went to Wisła a year ago. His beginnings were promising, but then something stuck in his game. Spring was already unsuccessful – he scored only one goal and definitely did not impress. We asked Yeboah what the reason for his metamorphosis was.
“Each trainer has a different vision of work. Maybe in the last round, Peter Hyballa’s philosophy did not work well – for the whole team, but for me as well, he admitted. – Meanwhile, with the new coach Adrian Gula, we are constantly trying to improve our game. I like this work philosophy of the Slovak trainer. I have had the opportunity to work with many good coaches in Manchester City, Lille, the Netherlands and Spain, and I believe that in the case of coach Gula there is no major difference in the way of working compared to these top coaches. He is a very good specialist” says Yeboah.
As he claims, the Slovak understands perfectly well that a player as creative as Yeboah cannot be rigidly imposed on everything. – Coach Gul leaves me a lot of freedom on the playing field. I can move towards the center of the field, even to attack – he explains.
You can also see that Yeboah gets along very well on the pitch with the new acquisitions of Wisła. – Now we have many very technically good players in the team, Michal Skvarka is one of them. Aschraf El Mahdioui is also a distinguished figure in this respect – admits the Ghanaian.
One of the goals that Yeboah scored for Wisla last season was a hit against Legia Warszawa. Now, at Reymont, they are getting ready for the league hit, that is, the clash with “Wojskowe”. – We will try to win against Legia on Sunday. Yeah
is our goal, we will do our best to make it happen. We will try to play our ball. We will also have the advantage of our fans in the stands – emphasizes Yeboah.
Transfer from Wisla? “They will let you know”
The winger of “Biala Gwiazda” admits that a year ago he made the decision to move to Ekstraklasa quite spontaneously, because he had little understanding of what to expect from Polish football. – When I got to Wisła, I didn’t know much about the Polish league. I decided to try. I like to try my hand at different countries, to change something in my life. I don’t like to sit in one place for a long time – he points out. – Although it obviously depends on how good the club is. I came to Ekstraklasa to present myself more broadly here.
A lot of people speculate that Wisla should take advantage of Yeboah’s dribbling skills and sell him in this transfer window if there is a chance. We asked the winger if he would rather stay in Krakow and confirm in the next matches of the autumn round that he has great potential. He declares that he is open to what the near future will bring.
– We have a few more days to close the transfer window. I don’t feel pressure on this topic. My agent works calmly, and so do the people in the club – says Yeboah. – If anything happens, they’ll let me know. At the moment, however, I am preparing for the Sunday game as a Wisla player. We still have a week, we’ll see.
