Prosecute persons within government without fear or favour – NPP’s George Ayisi tells Special Prosecutor nominee

Vida Essel-LampteyMember of the New Patriotic Party’s Communication team and Public Relations officer of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr George Ayisi have urged the Special Prosecutor nominee, Mr Kissi Agyebeng not to hesitate to prosecute persons with the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP) caught engaging in corrupt practice when need be.
According to him, he should do so without fear or favour, such persons status within the party and government regardless.
The NPP member made the call on Pan African TV’s current Affairs programme, HOTNEWS on Monday, April 26, 2021 monitored by GhanaPlus.com.
He said Mr Agyebeng, a renowned legal practitioner has the security of tenure of office to be able to work and function effectively without interference and urged him to take advantage of the job security his office offers to carry out his duties.
“I am looking forward to the possibility that Kissi Agyebeng will accept the responsibility, I pray the President accept the nomination and forward it to Parliament, Parliament endorse it then he will set out, 43years, he has 7year mandate right? 7years, if he don’t resign and so within the next 7years he will be able do the needful, because he has security of tenure, if he has to prosecute somebody from within the governing party he should do it with fear or favour,” he said.
Kissi Agyebeng replaces Martin Amidu
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Godfred Yeboah Dame in a letter dated April 16 announced the nomination of Mr Kissi Agyebeng, a Legal Practitioner and Criminal Law Lecturer as the Special Prosecutor.
He was to replace the former Special Prosecutor, Mr Martin Amidu who resigned in November last year.
