Vida Essel-LampteyAce Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni has said that he feels good, knowing that his investigative piece has yielded some positive results.
According to him, more often than not effort and risk put into uncovering such crimes go waste due to a lack of interest and commitment on the part of government and authorities to act on their findings, hence, it feels very good to know that the government took interest and is working on his work.
“I very feels good, if you listened to my lecture which I delivered two days ago, one of the issues I mentioned as being discouraging to this work of investigative reporting is to risk your life, tell the story and nothing is done about it so it feels very good”.
Manasseh was speaking on Joy News’ Newsfile on Saturday, October 31, 2020.
Manasseh Azure Awuni Commends President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo
Manasseh Azure Awuni commended the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for acting on the investigative piece “Contract for Sale” which exposed corruption being perpetuated by the Public Procurement Authority Boss right under his administration.
“It feels really good and it starts right from the president to CHRAJ. I commend the President very highly for not sitting on this matter and perhaps not referring it to the suspicious sources that we know that when cases are referred to, we never get good results,” he said.
He expressed his excitement about government commitment and the subsequent result achieved since the expose’ last year and called for more to be done to bring finality to the issue.
“So I am happy that something concrete is being done about it, we getting some result and we still expect more,” Manasseh added.
Contract for Sale
Investigative Journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni in August, last year aired an investigative piece, ‘Contract for Sale’ in which he presented evidence of corrupt practices against the head and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Procurement Authority, Mr. Adjenim Boateng Adjei, and other government officials for engaging in the malicious sale of road contract.
PPA Boss Suspension and Sack
After the expose, the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo suspended the PPA boss to enable authorities to carry out investigations into the allegations.
Just last night, a statement signed by the Communications Director of the Presidency, Mr. Eugene Arhin said the President has sacked the PPA boss after thorough investigations by the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRA) found him culpable of the allegations leveled against him.
