Frederick ElikplimThe total number of voters expected for this year’s election number a whopping 17,027,641 and would be allowed to vote in the elections.
This number excludes those who had their names removed from the voting list due to the infringement of electoral laws.
This was disclosed during a media interaction by the Electoral Commission (EC) Chair Mrs. Jean Mensa dubbed ‘Let the Citizen Know’.
The meeting was to state the preparedness and the plans of the commission ahead of the elections scheduled for Monday.
She stated that of the total number 8,810,283 were females and 8,217,358 were males representing 51.74 percent and 48.26 percent respectively.
According to her, the Greater Accra Region held the highest number of registered voters for both males and females, whereas the North-East Region had the lowest.
She added that through software applications 7,890 individuals had registered more than one which generated an extra 15,860 votes.
“They were barred from any electoral process but 55 of them are before the court to overturn the decision,” the chairperson added.
Mrs. Mensa added that the number of multiple and exception voters numbered 21,887 as compared to the last election which had 800,000.
She added that voters whose names were not on the voters’ list would be offered an opportunity to vote but would have to be manually verified.
She pleaded with Ghanaians to maintain peace during the election, adding that the EC had measures in place to conduct a secure and safe election.
