NPP Race: Paul Amaning Secures Number Two Spot On Ballot Paper
An aspiring Eastern Regional First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Amaning, would be placed on the number two spot on the ballot paper in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Chairmanship position in the region scheduled for May 28.
This was the outcome of the balloting which was conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
Paul Amaning believes he is in a strategic position to unseat the incumbent.
He pointed out that, while the NPP’s electoral fortunes were going down in a region considered to be its main pillar, that of its rival, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was rising which should be worrisome to the leadership of the NPP.
He is confident of a massive victory after the outcome of the elections.
Paul Amaning stated that although the party had been winning the popular votes in the Eastern Region, its performance had been declining over the years while that of the main opposition party the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had been increasing.
Supporting his claims with statistics, he lamented that the party lost three parliamentary seats in the last elections in the region.
He said for the party to retain power and break the eight, there was the need to change the current leadership of the party and replace it with a new one with the zeal and purpose to help the party achieve its objective.
*Strategy*
Under his leadership as regional chairman, he said, there would be the need to adopt new strategies which should translate into the kind of leaders the party would elect even at the national level to run the affairs to “break the eight” as it desired to.
He observed that some of the things that happened during the last constituency primaries affected voter turnout in the December 2020 election.
*Address concerns*
According to him, the party ought to pay serious attention to some of the things and ensure that everyone was brought to table to help in maintaining the party in power.
He said,” democracy is about numbers and we do not have to sideline anyone.”
Aside from voter apathy which he identified as affecting the party, they must reach out to the grassroots of the party to project the good works of the party.
“We need to bring all of them together to contribute their ideas and resources to move the party forward,” Paul Amaning exclusively told Accra-based Kingdom FM.
