A member of the New Patriotic Party(NPP)’s Communication Team, Ellen Ama Daaku has said in the present global economic challenges no Finance Minister is popular and so is Ghana’s minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.
She is however, of the opinion, he must be given the time to complete his negations with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) before any decision to oust him out of office.
Ms Daaku was speaking on TV3 NewDay monitored by GhanaPlus.com on Thursday, December 8.
“….. let be honest, no finance minister is popular now, the world over. In the present global issues. We had a Finance Minister who spent 35days at his post and he left and so for me personally, I believe that when it gets to a point and you have done your best, it is time to go.” I totally agree that he must go”, Ms Daaku said.
“But Remember when the 80MPs went to meet the President, the President did tell them that he wanted him to bring in the budget for it to be passed get the IMF programme going and then he will see what he will do”
“I believe that when all these things settle, I will be surprise if he continues to stay. He is already in the middle and in the process of doing something let him get to the logical conclusion of what he is doing and after that we will see what will happen,” Ms Daaku added.
Ms Daaku was speaking about the censure motion against Mr Ofori-Atta.
Parliament to consider vote of censure against Finance Minister
Parliament is expected to consider the censure motion filed by the Minority Cause in Parliament, after the Adhoc Committee tasked to investigate the allegations leveled against the minister submitted it report.
The 8-member Ad-hoc committee probed the allegations of unconstitutional withdrawal from the consolidated fund, deliberate and dishonest misrepresentation of economic figures to Parliament, fiscal recklessness leading to the crash of the Ghana Cedi, alarming incompetence and frightening ineptitude as well as gross mismanagement of the Ghanaian economy brought against the minister by the Minority.
The motion of censure was filed by the Minority on October 25 this year to remove the minister over the country’s ailing economic conditions since the beginning of the year.
