Motorists in Sekondi-Takoradi lament over halt of PTC Interchange construction project – Skyy Power FM

Residents and motorists in the Sekondi-Takroadi Metropolis are lamenting the halt of the construction of the three-tier PTC interchange.

The construction of the first interchange in the Western Region came to an abrupt halt after Ghana Government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) deal was finalised.
Further details as to the reason for this unfortunate incident, PTC Interchange is a barter (exchange) project, an agreement was reached between the Ghana and Chinese governments and in return, the Chinese government will be getting Bauxite.
However, one of the IMF conditions was for the Ghana government to halt all barter projects.
Some motorists in Sekondi-Takoradi are complaining of the abrupt halt of the project as the roadblocks and diversions are making manoeuvring a bit difficult in the Metropolis.
A motorist said, “Halting the project has brought chaos because it is within the central business district, the road being accessible from Kwesimintsim to Takoradi, Effiakuma to Takoradi becomes a challenge because that’s the main turning point for all these routes.
“Halting it means traffic along the Kwesimtsim and Effiakuma Highway will become serious.”
Also, some market women situated at the Jubilee Grounds are complaining of the constant inhalation of dust from the construction grounds as they keep complaining of health complications.
Speaking to Skyy News, they thought the project would be completed soon in June 2023, and they could manage the situation till the project is completed.
However, they are unhappy with the development as they believe the necessary authorities should help minimise the situation by constantly watering the environment.
Meanwhile the the General Secretary of the Construction and Building Materials Workers Union of TUC Ghana, Mr Richard Asamoah-Mensah speaking to Skyy News said, they are yet to meet the Ministry of Roads Highways concerning the PTC interchange project and the laid of workers to see how best they can resolve settle the issue
They are also hoping that the Ghana government and the Chinese government will reach a consensus for the project to continue.
