Government of Ghana to receive Atsu’s remains at 7PM today

The Government of Ghana will today, Sunday, February 19, receive the mortal remains of Ghana International, Christian Atsu who was found dead on Saturday, following the earthquake in Turkey.
A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration sighted by GhanaPlus.com said the remains of the celebrated player will arrive at Ghana’s airport, Kotaka International Airport at exactly 7:40 p. m.
It will be accompanied by his family who were in Turkey for his rescue and Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, via Turkish airlines.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration hereby informs that the Government of Ghana is making arrangement to receive the mortal remains of the late Christian Atsu, a former Black Stars player. The remains will be accompanied by accompanied by his family and Ghana’s Ambassador to Turkey, on a Turkish airlines flight and will arrive in Accra at 7:40 p.m. today, Sunday, 19th February, 2023,” the statement reads.
“The remains will be received at the Kotoka International Airport by the family, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the government upon arrival from Istanbul, Turkey,” the statement added.
Atsu found dead
Christian Atsu Twasam, a former Black Stars winger and Chelsea and Newcastle United star, was reported found dead on Saturday, February 18, 12 days after he was trapped under rabbles in the massive earthquake which hit Turkey on Monday February 6.
The 31 year old was with Turkish Süper Lig club, Hatayspor as a player at the time of the incident.
He joined the club on September last year on an initial one-year contract with option for a further year.
On Sunday, February 5, prior to the disaster, Atsu opened his scoring account in 1 win defeat game against Kasimpasa.
The earthquake recorded in southern Turkey and northern Syria have killed more than 40,000 people.
