WR Minister commissions 2-unit KG block worth 538k for Takoradi – Skyy Power FM

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, on Tuesday June 20th, 2023 commissioned a 2-unit classroom block for Haword Kindergarten in Takoradi within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western region.

At a short ceremony to commission and hand over the facility, Mr. Okyere Darko-Mensah said, he received complaints to the effect that the number of the enrollment in the school was decreasing due to the lack of kindergarten facility at the school.
So there was the need to construct the KG block to feed the primary section of the school.
He added that the project was also aimed at supporting schools in direct need of such infrastructure to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the country.
The project was funded by Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at a total cost of GHC 538,000. If it comprises a mechanized borehole, washroom, kitchen store room and head teachers office.

Mr. Darko-Mensah, indicated that the current government is committed to providing quality education right from the kindergarten to the tertiary level.
He, therefore, debunked assertions by some people that the government was only investing in the senior high schools harming basic schools.
“Takoradi Constituency alone has had five kindergarten classroom blocks under this government. So, the Nana Addo’s government is consistently investing in basic education throughout the country.”

He said that in 2015, when basic school pupils wrote the English Proficiency test which was conducted by the British Council, Ghana, only two percent of the children passed.
“Under the current government, 38 percent of the children passed in the same test. So we are investing and seeing results,” he stressed.

According to him, at the senior high school level, students were recording 48 percent passes under the past government.
To this end, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, appealed to the authorities of the school to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to serve generations unborn.
The Chief Executive of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Abdul Mumin Issa, said, the assembly will continue to provide needed educational facilities to enhance quality education in the metropolis.

He urged the people to support the government to deliver its promises to Ghanaians in the educational sector.
The Headteacher of Howard Memorial School, Grace Ayeh-Dankwa on her part pledged to ensure the facility is regularly maintained to serve the community.
She said, the facility would be used for its intended purpose of enhancing teaching and learning in the area.
