STMA and Plymouth city celebrate 20 years of partnership

The Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly and Plymouth City are celebrating twenty years of partnership as sister cities.

One of the Board of Directors of the partnership program, Peter Reid in his speech said the link established was to create relationships with towns in Ghana, of which Sekondi-Takoradi was the first city they associated with.

He said not only is Sekondi-Takoradi benefiting financially from the partnership, but they set up a charity in 2003 which has now led to their unique relationship with Ahantaman Girls School, a prestigious institution in Sekondi-Takoradi.

In his speech, he said aside from the link generating revenue for the district, professional doctors who specialized in the treatment of hernias have performed free surgery for over 5,000 Ghanaians through an outreach program for mostly fishermen and farmers.

They also train people in health to help them operate on people suffering from hernia.

The chair of the anniversary, Nana Kobinah Nketsiah V, Paramount Chief of Essikadu Traditional Area added that the link creates an opportunity for the people of Sekondi-Takoradi and beyond to travel abroad to study, not only that, twinning with Plymouth City also generates revenue for the district.

They awarded people who have been supportive since they established this link as they crowned it last Saturday.
