The President and Founder of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, a policy Think Tank, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe has given the Electoral Commission an ultimatum to organized election for the four communities in the Volta Region who were denied the opportunity to vote in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
According to him, the EC should hold the election by March this year or face being removed from office through a former petition.
“The EC should hold elections for SALL by March 2021. Failure to do this, I will support a formal petition to remove the EC”.
Mr Cudjoe made the comment in a tweet on Thursday, January 28, 2021.

Resident of SALL did not vote in Parliamentary elections
Eligible voters within the newly created Guan district, namely, Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi were not given the opportunity to vote in the 2020 Parliamentary elections.
The development was as a result of a constituency boundary issues which arise from the creation of the six new regions and subsequent intended creation of new constituency by the Electoral Commission which did not materialized.
Electoral Commission, SALL saga
CITI NEWSROOM report, “the EC had disclosed that it will initiate processes leading to the creation of a new constituency in the Guan district when the 8th Parliament commences”.
“A source at the EC said the Commission was unable to create the Constituency because of the C.I. needed to create a constituency that could not mature in the 7th Parliament”.
“It was not a deliberate attempt by the EC to deny the people of SALL a representation in Parliament. They could not have voted to elect an MP because it was not legally right for an MP to be voted for by two different districts,” the source said.
“By law, if a new constituency is created they have to join the new parliament, and whether the people will have a representation or not in the 8th Parliament, it will be another hurdle. As a Commission, we will do our part and leave the rest to the judicial process” citi newsroom report said.
