We are pleased with preparations – Mahama on Nigeria elections

Former President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has said the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) is pleased with the preparation made by Nigeria towards the elections to be held tomorrow, February 25, 2023.

“We are pleased with the level of preparedness by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security forces policing the elections and other stakeholders involved in the elections, towards conducting a free and fair exercise,” he said in a report sighted by GhanaPlus.com.

Mr Mahama was speaking in at a press conference at the federal capital, Abuja.

He is leading a delegation of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) in Nigeria to monitor as the country chooses a new leader tomorrow.

Addressing journalists, Mr Mahama said the success of this year’s election will among other things ensure peace in the West African West African sub-region.

“This year’s election is attracting this level of interest because Nigeria’s success and progress in this regard will go a long way in stabilizing democracy, promoting good governance and maintaining peace in the sub-region,” the former Ghanaian President told journalists on Friday, February 24.

Nigeria goes to the poll tomorrow

Nigeria will tomorrow go to the polls to elect a President out of 18 others contesting to lead the country as its 16th head of state since the country’s independent in 1960 and 6th under the fourth republic.

Notable among them are the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Tinubu, opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s, Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi and New Nigerian People’s Party’s Rabiu kwankwaso.

In all, some 93.4 million eligible voters are expected to cast their vote in tomorrow’s exercise.

Out of the figure, 44.41million representing 47.52 % are females while the remaining 49.05million representing 52.48% are males.

All of the country’s 360 House of Representatives seats are also up for grab in tomorrow’s elections.

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC),Professor Mahmood Yakubu speaking with TV3 ‘s Komla Klutse in Abuja said they are ready for tomorrow’s exercise.
