If you’ve been to a Ghanaian kitchen, you will realise that these three ingredients are always used in our foods. It is almost as if, we (Ghanaians) can’t cook without them. Almost everyone loves using them depending on what food is being prepared. Some love to add more one than the other but nevertheless, you are bound to always have them in a typical Ghanaian kitchen.
Outside Ghana, especially in the Western food cultures, some people may be allergic to one or two or even all of the three. It is important to omit them if allergic. The dish might taste slightly different but don’t worry, your health is more important.
Personally, I always have this blend ready in the fridge to save time and also aid in getting the flavours right on time. It comes in handy on busy days and I don’t have to always cry’ my way into cooking. 😉 😉 We will be using it a lot in most recipes here as well. Save some time and this magic trio ready if you’re ready for a taste of our Ghanaian foods in the comfort of your homes.
So, here’s my super trio blend of roots, that we use commonly in Ghanaian cuisine.

Kat’s Super Trio Blend of Garlic, Ginger and Onions
How to prepare Kat’s Super Trio Blend
You will need:
50g or about 7-8 garlic gloves
1000g of fresh ginger
250g about 2 medium-size raw onions
1/2 a litre of oil (you might need less)
How to make it:
Peel and blend all three together with some oil into a thick smooth paste.
Fry mixture over medium heat for 3mins.
Allow to cool down and store in closable container or glass jar in the fridge.
Alternatively, you can blend each separately, especially if you are allergic to one of them, as seen in photo above.
It stores up to a month depending on how frequent it’s used although mine usually lasts a fortnight.
With our Kat’s super trio blend ready, let’s get the kitchen hot with flavours.
