Butre Chief calls on authorities over deplorable community roads – Skyy Power FM
Butre is a small fishing village located on a sheltered bay by a forest, between the communities of Busua and Asemkaw, about 20 kilometres southwest of Takoradi.
Now home to nearly 400 inhabitants, largely from the Ahanta ethnic group, Butre was among the early historical towns generated by 17th-century inter-European and inter-African conflict.
The Divisional Chief of Butre, Nana Egya Butia X has called to the attention of authorities on the deplorable road network in his community.
Addressing journalists, Nana Egya Butia says the roads are in a sorry state and need to be fixed quickly.
According to him, the road serves as a linkage between other communities.
He expressed disappointment at the authorities for not constructing roads which enhances socio-economic development.
He said, “I’m highly disappointed in the government, the road projects in the community were commissioned by one of the oil companies in the region, but all we could hear was that the government have diverted the funds leading the project to be stuck.”
“The people of Butre are facing the consequences and it’s as if we are not part of Ghana, we are deprived of a proper road network… Just next week, JHS final year students are going to write their BECE and the centre is in Sanko, a sister and imagine them using this deplorable road to write exams for one week.”
“Someone going to write life-changing exams and is using this road to go and write exams.”
“What wrong have we the people of Butre done to be deprived of development, until we see that we have been added to the development decision, then we will also take our own action when the election year comes.”
Some of the final-year students at Butre JHS also added their voices to the calls on authorities to as a matter of urgency fix the road for them.
“We are going to write exams on Monday, August 7, and this is the road we will be using to commute to our examination centre, this will have an impact on us so we are pleading with the authorities to help fix our road.”
The MCE for Ahanta West Municipality, Mr John Agyare speaking on Skyy Power FM’s Jolly Breakfast Show said, he and the MP are working tirelessly to get deplorable roads in Ahanta West fixed.
He indicated that most of the roads have been awarded to contractors but due to reasons beyond their control, the contractors had to leave the site which they are negotiating for their return.
