Chief of Kwesikrom sends strong warning to Ahanta Chiefs involved in galamsey – Skyy Power FM

Nana Emu Agyemang VIII, Chief of Kwesikrom in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region has sent a strong caution to some Chiefs who give out their lands to illegal miners in the area to stop and call the galamseyers to order since their operations are destroying their land and river bodies.
His call comes on the back of the arrest of a said galamsey kingpin at Agona Banso on Saturday, 21 January 2023 by the Odikor and his asafo group.
Speaking exclusively to Skyy News, Nana Emu Agyemang hinted that if the government can not stop these illegal activities they will and that henceforth anyone (galamseyers) caught in the act of mining illegally on their land will be dealt with.
He said, “We will not forgive anyone who gets him/herself involved in galamsey because it keeps disgracing the people of Ahanta and we are very serious about that. Even worse, the chiefs are being accused of being involved but we know nothing about it.”
“We will also deal with any chief who is caught getting himself involved in galamsey.”
Ekrakrom Chief, Nana Duakuko II who spoke on behalf of the Omanhene of Upper Dixcove, Obrenpong Hima Dekyi XIV also warned those claiming ownership of his land to desist from that illegality.
He said, “We have arrested trespassers claiming ownership of our lands and we are letting the general public know and desist from trying to encroach on our lands.”
Meanwhile, the case involving the arrest of the said galamsey kingpin over the weekend at Agona Banso in the Ahanta West District has been transferred to Sekondi District Police Command and we are learning that suspect (name withheld) is being arranged before the court this morning.
