A Member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP)’s Communication Team, Mr Sylvester Soprano Sarpong has bemoaned the abysmal performance of the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo since he took office as the President of the country.
Speaking on Pan African Television on Tuesday, July 27 monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said “Indeed am so glad President Akufo-Addo became president, otherswise, including myself, i would have thought that he was the best President we never had but right now am very very glad I have always been voting for Ivory Green Street because I know that he could have done better than this disaster we are experiencing”.
Ghana is projected to become the fastest growing economy in Africa – Akufo-Addo
Mr Sarpong was responding to the report “Ghana is projected to be the fastest-growing economy in Africa this year made by the President at the 2021 performance contract signing ceremony for specified entities under the theme “Driving The Implementation Of Performance Enhancement Measures In SOEs, JVCs And Other State Entities”.
The President in his keynote address at the event indicated Ghana, despite the global challenges in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, was in a good position and rose above the challenge to record a positive GDP growth in the year 2020, a feat recorded by a few since the onset of the pandemic.
“…even in the midst of the global challenges, our economy is one of the very few to record positive GDP growth in 2020. This development is being buttressed forward by the first quarter of 2021 according to the Ghana Statistical Service…even better is the fact that according to Fits Solutions, Ghana is projected to be the fastest-growing economy in Africa this year”, he said.
GDP does not reflect in our pocket
Reacting to the report, Mr Sarpong noted the NPP government had performed abysmally and was only using COVID to cover their inability to deliver on it promises to the Ghanaians.
According to him, Ghanaians were not interested in such report because it does not reflect in their pocket neither does it address the difficulties many were face with.
The CPP communicator quizzed why Ghanaians should celebrate the country being the fastest growing economy in Africa when none of such countries was at par with Ghana in the first place.
“So Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo today, the President his Excellency is saying that Ghana to have fasted growing economy in Africa We are not satisfied with that. Nobody is interested in a race to the bottom. ….Who has performed creditably in Africa that to the extent that Ghana should be happy that we are exceeding that particular country,” he said.
