Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale North, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has reacted to Saturday night down pour which saw part of the capital city submerged in water.
Speaking on TV3 NewDay on Monday, May 23 monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said floods any day in the country makes him wonder how Ghana will survive snow if it happens here in our part of the world.
He noted snow although, worse than floods, countries that experience it have managed to live well with it without any serious damaged to life and properties, however, same cannot be said about floods in Ghana and Africa in general.
“Every time a see the floods in Accra in Tamale when it rains…..i think how we Africans or Ghanaians would have survived say snow. I mean what is wrong with us, are we a cursed race so that all these years something as little as flood, we have not been able to find a solution to it,”.
“….I think that we are blessed to our point of curse. God has blessed as so much that we have become so lazy in dealing with the problems that confronts us. Snow I believe is worse than floods because the rains come and it cause flooding and it takes maybe a week, two weeks or even sometimes a month before another flood will come but when it is snowing, it snowing but people in the world have devise a way to not have their lives dramatically interrupted to the point that they even loose lives when it snows so why can’t we deal with flooding in Africa and in Ghana, why?, he said.
Accra Floods
Some part of the capital city, Accra on Saturday, May 21 was flooded following a six hour long of heavy rains.
Homes were submerged, roads rendered unmotorable, commuters left stranded with many still counting their loses up until today.
The development has become a perennial one, with no end in sight.
