Media General/ Onua TV/FM’s Captain Smart arrested again

Media General’s Onua TV/FM morning show host Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart has been arrested.
3news.com report he was picked up at about 5:30PM by the National Intelligence Bureau(NIB) on Wednesday, October 19 while leaving the office.
TV3 report said he was pick up by the NIB with four vehicle and a motor bike after a lady was sent to the stations premises under a false identity to monitor, the renowned broadcaster’s movement for the day and report same.
“It is believed that his arrest is in connection with his comments about the ineffectiveness of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s fight against galamsey so far,” 3news.com said.
Mr Smart’s arrest comes in a day after the Ministry of Information expressed their dissatisfaction with the utterances of Mr Smart and threatened to drag him before the Media Commission and also explore a legal action against him and the Media General.
The attention of the Government have been drawn to a video published and circulated by Onua TV on October 17, 2022, titled ” Nana Addo is actively involved in galamsey – Captain Smart, in which one Godsbrain Smart alleges that President Akufo-Addo is actively involved in illegal mining activities,” the statement sighted by GhanaPlus.com said.
It added ” This publication impugns the character and integrity of the President, and the credibility and commitment of his fight against illegal and irresponsible mining”.
According to the statement signed by the Deputy Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar, the statement made by Mr Smart was bias, false malicious describing it as unethical journalism.
“Government has decided to refer the matter to the National Media Commission for review and adjudication. It is however, imperative to note that the aforementioned action is without prejudice to the government’s right to seek further legal action against Mr Smart, Onua TV and Media General,” the statement added.

Media General’s Captain Smart arrested
Mr Smart latest arrest makes it two the number of time the broadcaster have been arrested for making comment described as unsavory comment about the government.
He was first arrested in December 2, last year.
The popular media personality was first arrested on December 2, last year and detained by the National Security and the Ghana Police Service over some unsavory comment he supposedly made on his programme.
A statement from Management of Media General sighted by GhanaPlus.com said Captain Smart was picked up from his home early Thursday morning to the offices of the National Investigations Bureau and the Ghana Police service respectively for interrogations.
He was subsequently cautioned and his statement taken and granted bail.
