MTN donates ¢10,000 towards Bakatue Festival in Elmina – Skyy Power FM

Telecommunications giant MTN Ghana has made a cash donation to this year’s Bakatue Festival in Elmina in the Central Region.

The donation consisted of GH¢10,000 given to the Edina Traditional Council, drink hampers, GH¢1,000 worth of airtime, and souvenirs.

Nana Kodwo Condua VI, Omanhen of Edina Traditional Area, received the donation on behalf of the council at a ceremony held at the Elmina Palace.

The Bakatue Festival which is observed annually, is a time for the chiefs and people of Elmina to offer prayers and express gratitude to the gods for providing a prosperous fishing year.

This year’s festival is on the theme “Buy made-in-Ghana goods and use made-in-Ghana products and support Ghanaian industries and create employment for the youth.”

Delivering a speech on behalf of the Senior Manager for South West Business District MTN Prince Owusu Nyarko, Mr Francis Gyang, Manager for Central Region said the theme of this year’s celebration cannot be over-emphasised.

According to him, unemployment is a serious and ever-present issue in the country.

“Our youth are in need of jobs and they are looking for opportunities where to take their creative and entrepreneurial spirit.”

He, therefore, stressed the importance of supporting local products and services. He highlighted that by consciously choosing made-in-Ghana goods, citizens can contribute to the development of a strong local economy that can compete on a global scale.

He also pledged that MTN as a company would continue to contribute to the creation of jobs by buying and using made-in-Ghana goods.

He went on further to say that the donation was a gesture of appreciation for the longstanding friendship between the company and the people of Edinaman Traditional Area and promised to do whatever they can to “enhance the lives of our people and ensure they have the best resources to meet their needs”.
