New date for J. J. Rawlings final funeral rites announced

The government of Ghana has announced a new date for the final burial ceremony for the late Former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings.
J. J Rawlings affectionately called Papa J, by Ghanaians died on November, 12 after a short illness.
He was 73 at the time of his dead.
A letter sighted by GhanaPlus.com and addressed to Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations and Honorary Consulates in Accra on Friday, January 8, said the late former President and the first President of Ghana’s fourth Republic would be laid to rest on Wednesday, 27th of January 2021.
Prior to the burial, the late Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be laid in state from January, 24 through to 26 at the Accra International Conference Center from 9: am to 5pm, daily for Ghanaians to pay their respect accordingly.
“Mass on 26th January, 2021 from 9a.m to 11a.m at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra,” a portion of the letter reads.
Burial service would however, be held at the Independent Square, also known as the Black Star Square.
“Burial Service on 27th January, 2021 from 9a.m to 11a.m at the Independent Square” the letter said.
