Over 2, 000 Farmers Participated in Agrisolve 2023 Harvest Forum at Sang.
Agrisolve organized the 2023 Harvest Trade Forum for Smallholder farmers in Sang, Mion District, Northern Region. On October 16, 2023, Agrisolve engaged around two thousand Smallholder farmers, Commercial farmers, and OB Networks from Tamale, Yendi, Sang, Gushegu, Zabzugu, and other surrounding villages.
During the event, Madam Elorm Goh, the Executive Director of Agrisolve, highlighted the important roles farmers play in national development. In her speech, she expressed, “On behalf of Agrisolve and the planning committee of the 2023 Harvest Trade Forum, it is a great honour and privilege to welcome you all to the much-anticipated inaugural harvesting at Sang in the Mion district of the Northern Region.
We stand at a crucial juncture on the 16th of October 2023, with diverse minds and experts with common goals to transform the agriculture landscape and empower farmers”.
Madam Goh emphasized that today’s forum is not just an event but a collective commitment to sustainable development and empowerment.
According to her, the forum is a platform to celebrate the efforts, dedication, and resilience of the rural farmers who play a significant role in national development.
“Today’s event marks a significant milestone in our journey towards creating meaningful change in the lives of those who toil to feed the nation with their labor. The Harvest Forum is a platform that goes beyond discussion,” she added.
Madam Goh believes that the farmers and guests who have travelled from far and near have brought with them a wealth of knowledge and passion for agriculture.
She encouraged smallholder farmers to take their work seriously because agriculture is the backbone of their communities.
She believes that the Agrisolve forum is a platform where their voices will be heard, and their challenges will be addressed.
“Every seed planted today holds the potential for a bountiful harvest tomorrow. Today’s event marks significant steps in our shaped commitment to create a sustainable pathway for rural communities,” she stated.
She emphasized that the event is not just a discussion about agriculture but also about creating a future where smallholder farmers play a central role in shaping a resilient and prosperous society.
In addition, October 16 marks International World Food Day, reminding people that “water is life, water is food.” Madam Goh stressed the importance of recognizing the role of water in food production and distribution and ensuring that everyone has access to safo drinking water and food.
“Agrisolve is one of the many organizations across the globe concerned with reducing hunger and ensuring food security.”
The District Chief Executive of Mion, Honorable Samuel Kwesi Negri, encouraged farmers in the district to take advantage of Agrisolve’s Harvest Trade Forum to learn more about farming.
He highlighted the government’s initiative of the second phase of planting for food and job, emphasizing its role in putting money into the pockets of farmers and individuals ready to venture into the farming business.
The Agrisolve annual program in Sang saw the presence of the Executive Director of Agrisolve, Madam Elorm Goh, Regional Director of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) Madam Hawa, farmers, the media, and others.
In an interview with Fusheina, a smallholder farmer from Nakpale said, “Previously, some of us didn’t know how farming activities went. We used any available seeds in our possession to plant. But now, Agrisolve has taught us how to go about our farms and produce good-quality grains.”
In attendance at the event were the MoFA-Deputy Director of Crop Services, Mr. Michael Owusu, Regional Director of MoFA, Madam Hawa Musah, 2022 best farmer Alhaji Mashood Mohammed, Mion DCE Hon Samuel Kwesi Mahama, Chiefs, Assembly Members, the media, and many others.
