No exgratia, I only receive my pension

John Mahama, an ex-president of Ghana, claims he does not receive any further compensation for what he was paid for his services.

He claims that the only compensation he receives is the same pension that every worker in Ghana receives.

Besides that, “I simply receive my monthly pension, just like President Kufuor or President Rawlings did till he passed away. All I get is that.

This follows remarks made by a portion of the public that he is receiving the same financial benefits he criticizes regarding holders of Article 71 Offices.

One of them is Kwame Baffoe Abronye, the Bono Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party, who claimed that Mr Mahama had received millions in ex-gratia payments.

However, the 2020 NDC presidential candidate maintains that he must shoulder all of his other financial commitments, both personally and professionally.

“I pay my home and office’s electrical bills. I pay my office’s and my home’s water bills. In an interview with Accra-based TV3, he stated, “I live in my own housing thus the state does not give me anything for housing.

He listed the expenses he pays for on the table, including fuel, medical expenses, domestic help, and airline tickets.

The only lump money, according to Mr. Mahama, was “230,000 as salary arrears in 2013.”

“Normally when you leave, they approve what should be done for you, but it is not being done for me,” he added.
