The Member of Parliament for the North Tongu Constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has waded into the ongoing discussion about domestic violence in the country.
According to him, there is no justification for a man to raise his hand against his partner adding that real men protect their partners and not hurt them.
He described the development as horrifying and heart wrenching and added that Ghanaian in the nook and cranny of the country must be angry about it
“Horrifying and heart-wrenching times not just for our daughters, sisters and wives; we must all be outraged that physical and emotional violence against women continues to this day,” he wrote.
“There can be absolutely no justification to lift a hand against a spouse. Real men use their strength to protect their partners not harm them,” he added.
Mr Ablakwa made the comment in a Facebook page on Friday, March 12, 2020 sighted by GhanaPlus.com.
The MP in the post called on Ghanaians to encourage women to without hesitation resist and report domestic violence to save their lives.
He also curse all persons who engaged in the act not to find any peace in their lives.
“We must strongly encourage ladies to boldly resist and report domestic violence without the slightest delay. Better to leave and live than to stay and succumb. Our deep sympathies and prayers are with all bereaved families including the many victims who escape the lenses of the media.May the perpetrators never find peace and when they are finally found out, may their earthly punishment serve as sufficient deterrence,” he said.
