Section of Tanokrom to be demolished over construction of interchange
A section of Tanokrom, a suburb of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis will be cleared as shop owners and structure owners along the Takoradi Mall to Pipe Ano road have been advised to vacate.
According to sources, this is due to the construction of the first three-tier interchange in the Western Region which will somehow affect those with structures and those encroaching the “corridors of the road”.
The PTC roundabout is being redeveloped into a three-tier interchange to ease traffic flow considerably and shorten travel time for commuters.
Also, Mr Abdul Mumin Issah, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Assembly (STMA) says preparations are underway to begin the expansion of the Sekondi to Takoradi road into the proposed dual carriage.
Mr Issah told Skyy Power 93.5FM that the design of the dualization is complete and the consultant would engage the public soon mentioning that a possible road diversion through New Takoradi along the railway line that merged at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital was also being considered.
The MCE, therefore, called on the public to desist from encroaching the “corridors of the road” because they would not be entitled to any compensation should their structures be demolished for the construction of the road.
“Unless you are a legitimate landowner…you will not be paid anything should demolition for construction begin”.
Also, over 1,000 trees in the Metropolis along the roads will be cut down due to the expansion project, and three times of that number will be replanted after the project.
“Contractors have identified about 1,000 trees that will need to be cut down to make way for the project, after the project, we will plant times three of the trees cut down to fill in the gap.”
He also wanted residents to be aware of the demounting of street lights from the Esikado Junction through to the Paa Grant Roundabout, also, security will also be intensified during that period as it will be advisable to help reduce crime due to the absence of the lights.
“Very soon, we will be installing diversion signs in the Metropolis to make drivers and commuters aware and familiarise themselves with the new routes,” he added.
