Some residents of Sekondi led by the Muslim youth chief of the Western Region Ahmed Rufai Abubakar Tanko Nuhu are refuting claims by Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, Member of Parliament (MP) of Sekondi that he is funding the construction of the Sekondi Zongo clinic.
On Saturday 8th April, the Western Regional Nasara Coordinator Alhaji Labib speaking during a visit by the MP to Sekondi Zongo stated that the Zongo clinic was at its current level of construction thanks to the funding of the MP.
Mr Rufai Nuhu said, “I had a call from the funders of the Zongo clinic in Germany alerting me of a circulating video where the MP is claiming to be funding the clinic project. I told them to disregard the MP’s statement because he is not funding any project and it is their funds which are being used for the project.”
“If the MP is claiming to be funding the project, then he should show us the receipt or bring in the remaining funds we need to complete the project.”
However speaking at a press conference in Sekondi on Monday, Ahmed Rufai Tanko Nuhu in refuting the claims gave the MP a 24-hour ultimatum to produce documents on how the supposed funds were spent on the construction of the clinic.
He said, “If you look around there is still work to be done and we are giving the MP a 24-hour ultimatum to prove that he is funding the project and should also bring the remaining funds to complete the project if he is truly funding it.”
