Tarkwa MP awards best teacher with car
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tarkwa Nsuem Municipality has awarded the overall best teacher with a brand new car at an award ceremony.

Mr Shadeack Oteng, who won the overall best teacher went home with a brand new saloon car and was full of praise for the MP.
The maiden Award ceremony christened Duker Teachers’ Awards was held at the University of Mines and Technology witnessed 11 teachers from Primary, JHS, SHS and Head Teachers awarded with Chest freezers and 50-inch television sets.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Hon George Mireku Dukwa said the award forms part of an effort to motivate teachers and change the face of education in the municipality.

According to him, education was one of his priorities when he was elected as MP, so he had decided to put teachers at the centre of his educational agenda.
Teachers, he said, perform an essential role in national development and teaching was pivotal in human existence and transformation.
Hence to achieve the sustainable development goal of quality education, teachers must be recognised, celebrated and well resourced.

“My vision to institute this awards scheme, stems out from the various sacrifices made by teachers in this Municipality and elsewhere to impact our children towards their bright future. I am personally aware of the various challenges faced by our teachers and I believe that the institution of this award scheme, is one leg towards recognizing and motivating their efforts and supporting their needs. I am very optimistic that, it is a rightful step towards enriching education in the Municipality.”
Other Education initiative
As part of an effort to enhance education in the municipality, Mr Duker intend to roll out a teacher support fund
The fund dubbed TARKWA-NSUAEM Teacher’s fund will seek to solve challenges confronting teachers in their line of duty.
“The purpose of establishing such a fund is to help address genuine pressing needs of Teachers in the Municipality.
In the course of the year, the board of trustees and all modalities of the fund will be established during the launching.” He said
The occasion was graced by traditional leaders, some authorities of UMaT, Teachers and some members of the New Patriotic Party
