Squatters at Sekondi Railways seek grace period over evacuation

Squatters at European Town in Sekondi are begging for more days to pack off following the assembly’s notice to demolish the temporary structures which are becoming a safe haven for criminals and prostitutes.

The notice for these squatters here at the European Town in Sekondi to evacuate the land elapsed today Monday 7th November 2022, following the fire outbreak that razed down over 50 temporary structures and destroyed thousands of properties.

On our visit to the European town of Sekondi this morning the STMA had not executed their demolition as previously planned but the electricity company of Ghana had taken residents off the national grid and had removed their meters from them as well.

Mr Johnny who is affected by the exercise spoke to Skyy News saying, “It is inhumane for ECG to treat their customers in that manner because they pay their bills and it would have been better for ECG to negotiate with them.”

Also, they are pleading with the government for a time extension as they are requesting a new location.
