Those who take GHS3,000 and below as salary will not pay E-levy

The Western Regional Minister, Mr Kwabena says there has been a lot of miseducation on the controversial E-levy and with that, he will want Ghanaians to know the poor in the society will not be affected.

Also, because of the miseducation on the policy, the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis will host the Government Townhall on E-Levy at the Sekondi Youth Centre on Wednesday, February 2.

Speakers at the event are going to be Mr Okyere-Darko Mensah, Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori, Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi, Mr Egyapa Mercer and the Information Minister, Mr Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5FM on Wednesday, he entreated Ghanaians to disregard negative news on the E-levy and only depend on the government for accurate news which entails the terms and conditions of the policy.

He also made it known the government thought it wise to exclude the poor from contributing to the E-levy since it does not want to burden them with what they cannot afford to pay.

He said, “Not all Ghanaians will pay the E-levy, most especially those who normally send GHS100 or less.”

“Assuming if your salary is GHS3,000 and you withdraw or send GHS100 every day in 1 month which is probably 30 days, then it means you will not be deducted the E-levy.”

“Even those whose salary is below GHS3,000, most especially government workers, none of them is going to pay any of the E-levy looking at their salary and expenditure in a day.”
