The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye has responded to the media criticisms that greeted the Christian Council of Ghana following its visit to some gamalasey site in the country.
Some members of the Christian Council, a representative group of the Christians community in Ghana, last month visited one of the mining sites at Adadentem to have a firsthand experience of the destruction caused by the illegal mining activity.
TV3 report, the members including, Rev Dr. Paul Boafo, Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev Prof Paul Frimpong Manso together with others prayed while there and evoked God’s will on those destroying the lands and water bodies.
“Any politician whose community, galamsey is ongoing the people should reject him. Any party tolerating this galamsey, the party should be rejected. Pas men of God.arty Chairman, party Secretary, party Sponsors, you have disgraced us. You have become a disgrace and a disaster to this nation,” Prof Frimpong Manso who spoke on behalf of the clergy said.
“We should think about the people, we should think about posterity, my heart is burning. We should change, and the corruption, corruption, corruption, almighty corruption, politicians we are tired of you. Media also we are tired of you, all of us, pastors and church members we should change and repent and have a different attitude and make Ghana better,” he added.
The report of their prayers was however, greeted with several criticism by the media.
Notable names in the media who slammed the men of God were of the view the visit was a misplaced priority since they had all the powers and the medium to speak plainly without avoiding unpleasant or embarrassing issues to the powers that be instead.
But speaking in a viral video sighted by GhanaPlus.com, he said the Christian Council owes no apology for praying at the galamsey site.
He added “Even if we went there to pray for three days, it will yield better results than what you have been doing all this while”.
“We want to a galamsey site to inspect the place. We gave interviews for them, we said what we wanted to say and as Christians and as pastors, before, we left there we held our hands and prayed for the land and then they captured that part and when it came to the news, these media people decided to spite us and then say that we are foolish people because we went out there to pray,”.
“We don’t apologize for praying, we don’t apologize praying. Why should we put in any apology praying?,”Apostle Nyamekye said.
