TV3’s broadcaster and NewDay host, Mr Johnnie Beresford Hughes has slammed the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following his comment he will choose one Ghana Card over a thousand interchanges.
Speaking on Jonnie’s Bite on TV3 NewDay on Friday, July 15, monitored by GhanaPlus.com, he said the Vice President should ask forgiveness when he visit the mosque to say a prayer today.
He questioned if the Ghana Card could transport the struggling Ghanaian from one place to the other or even reduce the heavy vehicular traffic that they are confronted with daily.
He added if the assertion by the Vice President was true then why did he not began the processes for the card instead of cutting sods for interchanges.
“ You now suggesting to us the same person who told us that we will construct concrete roads, Dr Bawumia. The same person who told us that we will stop asphalt and bitumen roads and construct concrete roads and I have been asking you where the concrete roads you promise us are?. The same person who told us that we will have to use interchanges and we will have to get them so that the economy will move at a certain speed now is telling us that one Ghana Card is worth or better than 1,000 interchanges. Ei bossu today is Friday, when you go to the mosque I beg you, maybe you should ask for forgiveness”.
“One Ghana Card is worth more than 1,000 interchanges, why? Can the Ghana Card stop traffic, can the Ghana card take people up and down and we have not even started benefiting from this thing fully there are people who are still queuing for the Ghana card”
“There are people who have paid their 250 and they still queuing for their Ghana card. There are people who are joining queues and then they are told that we are counting up to a certain number so go and come back. Mad hours are being wasted because of this same Ghana card. We have not finish operationalizing it People can’t access their bank account because they don’t have Ghana card and you are telling us that if you have 1 Ghana card it is more than a thousand interchanges. Bossu whoever wrote that speech for you maybe you should fire that person.
I will choose one Ghana Card over 1,000 interchanges
Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia while speaking at the Official Launch of Accra Business School’s IT Programmes on Thursday, July 13 said he will choose a Ghana Card over a thousand interchanges due to its impact on development.
He explained that the card which is currently the recognized card for all transactions in the country could enable students access loans without guarantors, enable citizens travel without visas etc.
We inherited a problem of national identification system. This has been with us since independent. We have implemented the national identification system of the Ghana card and we have today 16million Ghanaians with unique identities and that is a major transformation. A lot of people sometimes don’t even appreciate what the impact of the Ghana card is but if you give me one thousand interchange and a Ghana card i will choose the Ghana card because it has more impact on development.
