No person has been shot – Ghana Police on Assin North by-election

The Ghana Police Service has debunked reports that some persons have been shot at the ongoing by-election at the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region.
A Facebook post sighted by GhanaPlus.com said no person or vehicle have been shot within the constituency.
The Service however noted pocket of incidents including shooting into the air have been recorded and persons have been arrested to assist with investigations.
“Voting within the Assin North Constituency commenced this morning and progressed as expected in all polling stations across the Constituency.
The Police, however, recorded pockets of incidents, including an alleged incident of an individual shooting into the air. We wish to state that no person or vehicle has been shot at within the constituency. All the recorded incidents are being investigated and Police have also arrested some suspects who are in custody assisting our investigation,” the Police said.
The statement followed earlier report that two persons have been injured at Assin Praso following gunshots earlier in today, Tuesday, June 27, during the by-elections.
The Ghana Police Service said “adequate Police personnel have been deployed throughout the constituency to ensure security, law and order for the remaining period of the election and beyond.
We would like to urge all stakeholders to redouble their commitment to work with the Police to ensure a peaceful election especially as the exercise draws to a close.
Assin North goes to the polls
The people of Assin North today, June 27, went to the polls to elect a new Member of Parliament following a decision by the Supreme Court declaring the election of Mr Gyakye Quayson as unconstitutional over his dual citizen.
The Court held the NDC member held a dual citizenship as at the time of filling his nomination for the 2020 elections.
Voting is over and counting is currently underway.
