NPP’s Haruna Mohammed Questions OSP’s Exoneration of Mahama in Airbus Scandal

Haruna Mohammed, Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for handling the Airbus SE scandal, suggesting that former President John Dramani Mahama’s dismissal may be premature.
In an exclusive interview with TV3 on August 9, Mohammed argued that the OSP’s inability to investigate the scandal thoroughly raises doubts about the validity of its findings.
He highlighted that the OSP acknowledged limitations in its investigation, claiming it did not obtain all necessary facts.
“I don’t believe there is any real clearance here,” Mohammed asserted. “The Special Prosecutor’s report simply states that Mahama is ”Government Official One,” but an investigative report does not carry the same weight as a court judgment.”
Mohammed pointed out that the OSP’s report, which identified Mahama as ”Government Official One’ in the Airbus case, reflects the office’s limited capacity to prosecute.
He argued that the OSP’s admission of incomplete facts undermines the conclusion that no wrongdoing occurred.
The OSP had disclosed on August 8 that Mahama was recognized as ”Government Official One’ by UK and US courts in their investigations.
The OSP’s report confirmed that Mahama, Vice President of Ghana, was involved in the scandal from January 7, 2009, to July 24, 2012.
However, Mohammed contended that Mahama’s dismissal may only be partially justified with a comprehensive investigation and a complete set of facts.
